July Shawl KAL - Choose your own Cindy Garland Shawl project

Our July Shawl KAL will be a "Choose Your Own" Cindy Garland Shawl knit-along. When this KAL concept first began in January 2016, the shawl pattern we chose was the Vacillate by Cindy Garland -- it was challenging yet so rewarding to those who stuck with it and finished it. The Thursday group wanted to do another one of her patterns, and this concept made sense this month, as many people are away for the summer. If you're interested in joining the group, this will be a great month to do it!

(Note: If you're a Knit Companion user, many of her more recent designs are Knit Companion-ready).

Here's the Sonar Shawl, a popular choice:

This would be a wonderful pattern for a confident beginner. We recommend Ultra Alpaca Fine, a good value at less than $15/skein and we have a lot of it in stock right now. In addition, KAL members get their yarn for 10% off when they register. If you like natural shades, Classic Elite Mountaintop Vail cannot be beat for how luxurious it feels while you're knitting. You can also combine the Vail with its dyed counterpart, Villa.

Some participants chose the Afloat and Gateway to Fall shawls. Check out all of the shawl patterns though -- there might be another one in the mix that speaks to you.

We'll be meeting four times in July and if you'd like to join the KAL, we'd love to have you!
The cost to join is $40 and you'll receive the pattern free* in addition to a 10% discount on the yarn you choose for the project. Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, July 6.

Details:
The July KAL will meet on the following days:

What to expect from our Thursday & Sunday KALs:

  • Expect to learn a lot through hands-on instruction from the KAL - you will be challenged to learn new skills!
  • Expect to have fun! While we're learning, we're also helping one another and socializing.
  • Expect support before, during, and after the KAL - you will continue to have opportunities through the Ravelry group to ask questions until you finish your project.
  • Expect that because the group is popular and we like to say YES if you want to join us, that there might be several knitters in the KAL! If you would prefer one-on-one time, we can schedule that for you.
  • Expect extras - special discounts for participants, one-off workshops like how to block your knits, and other fun treats.

*We choose patterns that are available through the Ravelry in-store program. This means we purchase the pattern on your behalf. It's sent to you as a PDF via email and will be saved in YOUR Ravelry library. We do NOT buy the pattern and make photocopies -- your very own pattern copy should arrive in your email, and in some cases will have your name printed on it. A modest printing fee will apply if you'd like a printed color copy of the pattern.
