July Shawl KAL - Choose your own Cindy Garland Shawl project

Our July Shawl KAL will be a "Choose Your Own" Cindy Garland Shawl knit-along. When this KAL concept first began in January 2016, the shawl pattern we chose was the Vacillate by Cindy Garland -- it was challenging yet so rewarding to those who stuck with it and finished it. The Thursday group wanted to do another one of her patterns, and this concept made sense this month, as many people are away for the summer. If you're interested in joining the group, this will be a great month to do it!

(Note: If you're a Knit Companion user, many of her more recent designs are Knit Companion-ready).

Here's the Sonar Shawl, a popular choice:

Sonar Shawl, by Cindy Garland

This would be a wonderful pattern for a confident beginner. We recommend Ultra Alpaca Fine, a good value at less than $15/skein and we have a lot of it in stock right now. In addition, KAL members get their yarn for 10% off when they register. If you like natural shades, Classic Elite Mountaintop Vail cannot be beat for how luxurious it feels while you're knitting. You can also combine the Vail with its dyed counterpart, Villa.

Some participants chose the Afloat and Gateway to Fall shawls. Check out all of the shawl patterns though -- there might be another one in the mix that speaks to you.

We'll be meeting four times in July and if you'd like to join the KAL, we'd love to have you!
The cost to join is $40 and you'll receive the pattern free* in addition to a 10% discount on the yarn you choose for the project. Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, July 6.

Details:
The July KAL will meet on the following days:

What to expect from our Thursday & Sunday KALs:

  • Expect to learn a lot through hands-on instruction from the KAL - you will be challenged to learn new skills!
  • Expect to have fun! While we're learning, we're also helping one another and socializing.
  • Expect support before, during, and after the KAL - you will continue to have opportunities through the Ravelry group to ask questions until you finish your project.
  • Expect that because the group is popular and we like to say YES if you want to join us, that there might be several knitters in the KAL! If you would prefer one-on-one time, we can schedule that for you.
  • Expect extras - special discounts for participants, one-off workshops like how to block your knits, and other fun treats.

*We choose patterns that are available through the Ravelry in-store program. This means we purchase the pattern on your behalf. It's sent to you as a PDF via email and will be saved in YOUR Ravelry library. We do NOT buy the pattern and make photocopies -- your very own pattern copy should arrive in your email, and in some cases will have your name printed on it. A modest printing fee will apply if you'd like a printed color copy of the pattern.

June 2016 Shawl KAL - Geology Shawl

Our newest Thursday KAL pattern has been announced! The Geology Shawl contains a variety of stitch patterns, including knit/purl combinations and lace patterns. The pattern features both charts and written directions. We have a dedicated facilitator to assist you with the project as well as a Ravelry group and message thread for this KAL. We recommend Manos Del Uruguay Fino yarn because of its generous yardage (important if you are wanting a longer, wider version of this shawl), but you are welcome to use any fingering weight yarn of your choice -- the pattern calls for 420 yards of fingering weight yarn and a Size 6 (US) circular needle, 32".

Cozy Memories Blanket Knit Along

Do you have mini skeins of fingering weight yarn or leftovers from sock knitting? Beginning May 3, 2016, from 1:00 to 3:00, we'll be offering a free KAL every Wednesday for anybody interested in knitting along with us. This mitered square blanket uses around 5 grams of fingering weight sock yarn per square. The Cozy Memories blanket KAL is free but we ask that you register so we know how many people to expect. We will have opportunities for you to purchase and swap mini skeins as you build your one-of-a-kind blanket (search the #cozymemoriesblanket tag on Instagram for lots of eye candy and inspiration). Please call the shop to register for the KAL.

Kemper Wray's Coziest Memory in progress.

The recommended pattern is Kemper Wray's free pattern: The Coziest Memory. However -- you are free to use any pattern you choose! Please download and print your pattern prior to our first meeting. Details and strategies for starting a memory blanket can be found here: The Coziest Memory Blanket Recipe.

A few months ago, I discovered this YouTube video by podcaster Molly of Homespun House, that inspired me to start this project; it's not for everybody, but I know that many of you have already started blankets of your own and would love to join others who are working on this project.

For February, she's chosen The Peacock's Tale shawl. If you're an experienced (intermediate to advanced) and adventurous knitter who would like to meet regularly with others who are working on the same project, we'd love to have you! To join the KAL, please sign up at the shop or call us to reserve your spot and we'll take payment over the phone. Deadline to register is Wednesday, February 3.
