August Classes & Private Lessons

I haven't posted in a while, so this is a great opportunity to catch up since we have some updates. This month, we have a handful of Louet Euroflax 100% linen garments for you to see and try on. We've paired it with a generous discount and free pattern with purchase of the yarn required for the Euroflax project. Come see us!

Our intention for August and early September is to fill it up with private lessons and custom classes designed to fit your needs. A few of us are going through our hibernating projects to "Finish, Fix, or Frog" and we thought some of you might want to set up one-hour appointments so we can help you do the same with your languishing projects.

KAL Updates and Anniversary Sale

Sagitta Shawl KAL - begins Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.

Our second round of mini kits for the KAL won't arrive until Monday the 17th, but you are welcome to join us before your yarn gets here! A handful of people have already received their kits and the rest of the yarn kits should arrive in a week or so. We'll continue the Sagitta KAL through the first half of August to give everybody a chance to knit together. If your yarn is not in the first or second round of shipments, I'm offering a 10% discount for the inconvenience.

Building with Lace KAL - begins Friday, August 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.

If you prepay for the Rylie (requires 5 skeins at $27.95 each) along with the book, you will receive a 10% discount on your purchase! We'll continue meeting for the Friday afternoon lace KAL through mid-September.

Another alternative for a suitable yarn for the KAL is Batiste and we have the yardage the shawl requires in several colorways.

April 2017 Calendar and Knit- and Crochet-Alongs

The April 2017 Calendar is now available and we've added a new Knit-Along KAL) for the Cassis Shawl, which calls for 1 skein of fingering weight yarn and a size 4 needle. The pattern and KAL are free, and we're taking sign ups so we can have an idea of how many will show up for the KAL. Please see the April 2017 Calendar for the dates and times the KAL will meet. Also -- remember to download your pattern from Ravelry in advance as we will not have printed copies in the shop. We are happy to help you choose yarn and needles for this project.

The Crochet-Along that meets on Tuesday afternoons will continue through April. Currently, the participants are working on the Spice of Life blanket but feel free to bring your own crochet project and join us on Tuesdays! See the calendar for meeting times. No sign ups are required.

If you're not on Facebook and if you've opted out of our newsletters, you might not be aware that we're making some changes to the in-store rewards program at Twisted Yarns. Please click the link below as some of you might have rewards that are about to expire! We'll also be open tomorrow (Sunday, April 2, 2017) from 1:00 - 4:00 if you cannot make it today. The program changes will become official on Monday, April 3, 2017 (We are NOT open that day). You have the remainder of the day today and tomorrow to use your rewards. You are only affected if you've not used a reward that you earned prior to April 2, 2016, so please check if you are in doubt.

We have a new Crochet-Along you're invited to join! March is National Crochet Month and we're featuring this excellent skill all month!

You are welcome to join us from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. to work on the Spice of Life CAL (Crochet-Along). The Spice of Life Blanket is a free download on Ravelry -- be sure to choose the one with US crochet terms. (Before you print, please be aware it's 26 pages)! Customers have used Plymouth Dreambaby DK, Ewe So Sporty, stash yarn, and more. Each Tuesday, we'll have at least one -- often two -- staff members who are crochet experts to help you along. Brush Calligraphy Class February 11, 2017

Leonie Pullover Knit Along

We can't get enough of this new summer pullover and we're having so much fun putting together combinations that we thought we'd offer a free Friday afternoon (1:00 - 3:00) KAL for the month of June. Alisa finished hers with Knit One Crochet Too Batiste and DanDoh Cotton Fine and has been wearing it for a while now. Olivia has knit two of them -- one with Louet Euroflax Sportweight and one with DanDoh Cotton Fine and Bio Sesia. Ann just cast on for her Leonie with Knit One Crochet Too Soie et Lin and DanDoh Cotton Fine. The positive ease paired with the larger needle size ensures that this will be comfortable top for a Houston summer.

Let us help you choose yarn for the Friday KAL! It begins on June 10th at 1:00 p.m. and will meet every Friday through July 1st. While we won't have a dedicated instructor this time (hence the FREE part), there will always be at least one staff member every Friday who is either finished with her Leonie or ahead of the KAL members. Please sign up though! We want to make sure we have enough yarn and patterns.

Thursday Shawl KAL - Chasing Rainbows

We have a new knit-along to announce! The April Shawl KAL will be Boo Knits Chasing Rainbows:

The KAL will meet the following dates and times:

Thursday, April 7 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Thursday, April 14 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm

The shawl is designed for lace weight yarns (keep reading for a surprise). The cost to join the KAL is $40 and includes a discount on lace weight yarn that you purchase to knit the shawl, and the Chasing Rainbows pattern will be free for KAL participants* - please call 281-528-8664 during business hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 - 5:00 p.m.) to sign up for the KAL. 

We're learning from posting these gorgeous project and pattern photos, that you love the idea of knitting with the same yarn and beads that the designer has featured in the pattern photos. Many of the Chasing Rainbows projects on Ravelry were knit with a limited run of a colorway dyed especially for this Boo Knits shawl pattern. We contacted local dye artist Olivia Gauthier to create a colorway inspired by that special colorway. She used her silk/merino lace weight yarn to create 8 skeins of a truly beautiful yarn! That means the first 8 people who have already signed up and paid will get the opportunity to choose whether they'd like to knit the inspiration colorway. She also dyed a batch of solid colors with her silk/merino laceweight with silver sparkle bits in it for those who prefer to knit with a solid color. AND -- there's more. If you sign up for the KAL and wish to use beads, we've come up with two different bead options for you to purchase. (Beads are not required, however, and you can always purchase from your favorite bead store rather than our options).

What to expect from our Thursday Shawl KALs:

• Expect to learn a lot through hands-on instruction from the KAL - you will be challenged to learn new skills!
• Expect to have fun! While we're learning, we're also helping one another and socializing.
• Expect support before, during, and after the KAL - you will have opportunities through our Ravelry group to ask questions until you finish your project. 
• Expect that because the group is popular and we like to say YES if you want to join us, that there might be as many as a dozen of you on the first day of the KAL! If you would prefer one-on-one time, Lisa is available to help you on Thursdays before the KAL. 
• Expect extras - special discounts for participants, one-off workshops like how to aggressively block your shawls, and other fun treats. 

*We choose patterns that are available through the Ravelry in-store program. This means we purchase the pattern on your behalf. It's sent to you as a PDF via email and will be saved in YOUR Ravelry library. We do NOT buy the pattern and make photocopies -- your very own pattern copy should arrive in your email, and in some cases will have your name printed on it. A modest printing fee will apply if you'd like a printed color copy of the pattern. 

Sunday Sweater KAL - Westbourne

I'm thrilled to announce our inaugural Sunday afternoon knit along (KAL) beginning this Sunday, January 24th. Check the pattern details below to help you decide if you'd like to join us for 4 Sundays for $40. (KAL fees reserve the independent instructor and hostess, as well as any additional staff needed at the shop). Twisted Yarns will provide the pattern* and a 10% discount on all yarn purchased for the KAL. If you'd like to sign up, call or visit the shop during business hours beginning today through Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
